Rebecca Bligh, President of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM), released a statement following the Canada-Québec partnership on infrastructure on June 2
"FCM supports today's investment into Quebec communities by the Federal government on infrastructure and transit. Within the announcement, the Federal government also shared a welcome update on CPTF streamlining for municipalities across Canada.
Today's announcement shows that when all orders of government work together, Canadians benefit. Streamlining transit funding and launching the new Strong Transit Fund for major projects will get shovels in the ground faster, accelerate transit projects and get more buses on the road, or trams on tracks. FCM welcomes this as a major step forward.
FCM has consistently heard from municipalities across the country that they are looking for streamlined public transit funding. Today's announcement aligns closely with our advocacy on behalf of these communities. As implementation moves forward, we look forward to working closely with the Government of Canada and provincial and territorial partners to ensure municipalities can access funding quickly and deliver results for transit riders across the country.
Investing in public transit and infrastructure is an investment in Canadians. It reduces congestion, supports economic growth and demonstrates real action on climate change for future generations."
Rebecca Bligh, FCM President
