The City of Kamloops is introducing Let's Learn, a new education-focused web page designed to help residents understand how their local government works and to clear up common misunderstandings.
Let's Learn shares information about the processes, decisions, and responsibilities that shape daily life in Kamloops. The platform is part of the City's ongoing commitment to helping everyone learn more about how their community works, supporting informed public discussion, and building trust through transparency.
"Residents want to understand how decisions are made, why certain rules or policies exist, and how they help shape the future of our community," said Kristen Rodrigue, the City's Communications and Strategic Partnerships Director. "Let's Learn is designed to meet that need by offering straightforward explanations and direction to where more information can be found."
Key Features of Let's Learn
- Understanding Your City: Learn how local government works, including how decisions are made and how long-term plans are created.
- Topic-Based Learning: Explore sections like Council 101, Civics 101, Housing and Homelessness, and Crime and Safety. Each topic explains big ideas in simple ways.
- Myth-Busting Facts: Find short, clear facts that correct common myths and rumours about City services and responsibilities.
- Community Input: Residents can suggest new topics or areas where more clarity is needed, helping ensure the resource reflects community interests.
- Accessible Information: Content is written to be clear and factual so people of all ages can learn about their local government structure and current topics of interest.
Let's Learn will continue to grow as new questions and suggestions come in and as the City identifies opportunities to clarify policies, services, and processes. The City encourages residents to visit the page, explore the topics, and share ideas for future additions.
