About the Role:

Join our dynamic team as a vital member of our aquatic services! As a lifeguard, you'll be at the forefront of ensuring safety and providing exceptional service to our community. You'll work in a unionized environment, guided by established legislation and provincial guidelines, all under the supportive supervision of our Aquatic Coordinator and Shift Supervisors. Your primary responsibilities will include lifeguarding, responding to emergencies, maintaining cleanliness, and contributing ideas for continuous improvement. This role offers the opportunity to project a positive image of yourself and our organization while honing your leadership and teamwork skills.

This is a part-time, casual position and is required to work night, weekends, and statutory holidays.

Requirements

Our Ideal Candidate:

  • Demonstrated competency in lifeguarding as per legislative requirements and City of Medicine Hat Aquatics policies.
  • The ability to swiftly identify and respond to emergency situations with confidence.
  • A commitment to maintaining physical fitness standards outlined in the National Lifeguard Award and City of Medicine Hat Aquatic Physical Fitness Standards.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills to engage effectively with colleagues and patrons.
  • Proven leadership abilities, with a knack for planning and organization.
  • The flexibility to work independently or collaboratively as part of a cohesive team.
  • Reliability and dependability in fulfilling duties and responsibilities.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum age of 16 years.
  • Possess a current:
    • National Lifeguard Pool (NL - Pool) Award
    • National Lifeguard Waterpark (NL - WP) Award
    • National Lifeguard Waterfront (NL - WF) Award
    • Standard First Aid (Level "C" CPR) Certificate, issued within the last twelve months at time of hiring.
    • Starfish Aquatic Instructor (SAI) Certificate
  • Completion of Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) training within the first two months of employment.
  • Equivalent combination of approved training and experience considered.

Additional Requirements: 

This position has been identified as Safety Sensitive and requires the completion of a satisfactory pre-employment drug screen. There will also be a requirement to complete a Vulnerable Sector Check and Interventions Record Check.
