Description
As a junior technical staff member you would provide support and assistance to senior engineering staff in administrative responsibilities, and performing moderate to complex technical work related to the completion of a variety of civil engineering activities and projects.

The Traffic Operations Section provides for the safe and efficient movement of people, vehicles and goods in order to contribute to a sustainable and liveable community. The Traffic Operations Section is part of the City of Surrey's Engineering Department and is responsible for a safe and efficient movement of people, goods and vehicles on Surrey’s road network. Traffic Operations Section manages, install, and maintain traffic signals and signal devices, traffic control signs and pavement markings and parking restrictions.

The successful candidate will work as part of a team of 10 engineering professionals. The work will involve a variety of tasks related to traffic engineering analysis, including, problem identification, option evaluation and report preparation, responding to public inquiries, and limited field studies. Technical analysis would include assisting the traffic engineering staff with sign placement, signal warrant evaluations, development of micro-simulation models, signal timing plan development. Additional duties could include the review of major capital construction projects and managing a team of students for traffic counts and street light inventory.
 

Requirements

Applicants must have completed their first year of a diploma or degree program in a related discipline. A valid Class 5 BC driver's license and a safe driving record are required. Applicants with a Class 7 BC driver’s license would be required to use their own vehicle for business purposes and purchase necessary business insurance. The City of Surrey reimburses 53 cents per kilometer for use of a personal vehicle.
