Completion of Grade 12 is required supplemented by a University degree in Geomatics Engineering or alternatively, a Degree of Technology in Geomatics or a two-year Diploma in Geomatics from a recognized technical school. Completion of a supervisory skills course coupled with preferably 5 years demonstrated civil engineering and legal survey experience is desired. This position also requires a valid B.C. Driver’s license with a safe driving history
This position involves but is not limited to complex surveying work, supervising staff in obtaining data and field measurements for office interpretative purposes, performing calculations on survey data, compiling detailed field notes and laying out features for construction of City utilities and other city projects.
The ideal candidate possesses strong communication and interpersonal skills along with proven skills in the effective direction of survey staff. Extensive knowledge of all types of City survey work, both theory and practise, is required as well as a Certificate of Completion from the Canadian Board of Examiners for Professional Surveyors (CBEPS) and eligibility to article as a Land Surveyor-in-Training. Thorough knowledge of survey computations and the ability to complete complex computations on the survey work performed in addition to experience working with modern survey instruments, communications and computer technology, and the ability to prepare detailed field notes is essential. Experience working with geodatabases and geographic information systems is an asset.
