Regional Municipality of York appoints Katherine Chislett as new Commissioner of Community and Health Services
The Regional Municipality of York announced the appointment of Katherine Chislett as its new Commissioner of Community and Health Services, effective March 20, 2017.
"On behalf of York Regional Council, I am pleased to welcome Ms. Chislett to our great organization," said York Region Chairman and CEO Wayne Emmerson. "Supporting community health and well-being is a strategic priority for our Council and she will be responsible for leading many of the programs and services to help us achieve this."
In her most recent position in the City Manager's Office at the City of Toronto, Ms. Chislett was responsible for leading complex projects and government-wide initiatives involving the coordination of Toronto's housing programs and activities in support of the Mayor and Council's Housing Advocate.
Ms. Chislett has held previous significant roles, including:
Commissioner, Community Services, The Regional Municipality of Niagara Director, Housing and Homelessness Supports and Initiatives, City of Toronto Manager, Community Policy and Research, City of Toronto Manager, Social Housing Programs, Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing
"Ms. Chislett has an abundance of expertise in the human services sector, specifically related to housing supports and homelessness prevention," said York Region Chief Administrative Officer Bruce Macgregor. "As former Commissioner of Community Services at The Regional Municipality of Niagara, her understanding of a two-tier municipal system is an asset in continuing to advance the important work at our Region."
Combined with her work experience, Ms. Chislett has a Masters of Arts degree from the University of Western Ontario and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Laurentian University.
Community and Health Services, York Region's largest department, is responsible for social services, housing, long term care, paramedic services, accessibility and human services planning, public health and department business services.
