Position Summary

Reporting to the Manager, IT Project Management Office, the IT Business Analyst will participate in the development and implementation of new technology solutions in addition to providing support and enhancements to existing business applications. Working closely with the Project Manager, this role will be tasked to complete various types of documentation throughout the Project Management Life Cycle and will conduct analysis and impact assessments. This role provides a critical link between the Information Technology department and the other business groups within the organization.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Working closely with Project Managers, Project Analysts, project sponsors, business users, subject matter experts, and external vendors to translate business needs into detailed documented requirements, functional designs, business process flows, and QA plans
  • Acting as the liaison between technical staff and multiple business units during the development and implementation of technical solutions while engaging with stakeholders at all levels and with every business unit to uncover issues in workflows, processes and tool usage
  • Build long-term relationships with business partners communicating clear expectations
  • Lead requirement and JAD sessions with business partners to perform business needs analysis  
  • Engage with stakeholders at all levels and with every business unit to uncover issues in workflows, processes and tool usage
  • Conduct gap analysis and impact assessments
  • Act as key translator between the business partners and the technical team
  • Prioritize and rank stakeholder requirements and progressively elaborate the ideal solution through analysis, process mapping, conceptual data modeling, and other techniques
  • Conduct research and analysis, accurately and clearly defining user requirements and processes
  • Collaborate with external vendors/suppliers to understand and deploy third-party business applications in a manner that most effectively and efficiently meets business needs while adhering to IT Change Management procedures
  • Assist with the development of various project documents and project deliverables including project proposals, business cases, business requirements documents (including functional and non-functional requirements), business process flows, use cases, requirements traceability documents and  procurement documents (including RFQ’s, RFP’s, etc.)
  • Review and analyze the effectiveness and efficiency of existing business systems as part of a continuous improvement strategy; recommend and implement improvements as appropriate
  • Recommend practical alternative solutions to a wide range of complex business problems while ensuring any potential issues are identified, tracked, and resolved
  • Facilitate and support the business in the preparation and execution of user acceptance test plans and provide training and support to assist their adoption of business process changes
  • Work closely with the Business and project team to uncover, escalate and resolve issues, limitations and dependencies
  • Communicate to the business partners to ensure they have a clear and complete understanding of proposed solution
  • Develop and review test cases for QA activities, support business and QA testing, defect triage and clarifications during the testing phases
  • Develop training material, training plan
  • Actively participate as a member of a cross-functional team on various assigned  initiatives ranging in size and complexity
Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Degree in Computer Science, Business or a related discipline
  • Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP), ITIL, PMP is an asset
  • 4 years of progressive experience with Business Requirements assessment, analyzing and documenting within a complex IT environment

Required Skills/Knowledge

  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office including PowerPoint, Excel, Project and Visio
  • Demonstrated experience in identifying user requirements and conceptualizing technical solutions in accordance with best practices
  • Ability to breakdown and explain complex topics to project stakeholders in a clear and concise way
  • Strong ability to interpret business requirements, identify data-related requirements and make recommendations on how best to accomplish strategic business goals
  • Demonstrated project experience working with a variety of methodologies (Waterfall, RUP, Agile, SCRUM etc.)
  • Prioritize and rank stakeholder requirements and progressively elaborate the ideal solution through analysis, process mapping, conceptual data modeling, and other requirements gathering techniques
  • Ability to interact effectively with all levels of management, external vendors and end users
  • Excellent interpersonal, collaboration, and negotiation skills with a proven ability to successfully deal with complex issues working within the context of cross-functional teams
  • Results-oriented critical thinker with excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Exceptional analytical skills with a keen attention to detail
  • Awareness of best practices in Information Technology service and solution delivery such as ITIL and COBIT
