Position Description: Under general supervision the Planner III Transportation specialist conducts a variety of research, reports, studies, and analysis to support statutory regional and urban planning documents, ensuring stakeholder input, and contemporary planning solutions. Provides sound technical support and advice to the branch to assist with cross sector initiatives and interdepartmental projects. Coordinates assigned projects to meet time and budget goals.
• Bachelor Degree in Planning or equivalent education and experience in transportation planning.
• Master’s degree on Transportation planning is desirable.
• Minimum five (5) years experience in planning or related discipline with strong knowledge of GIS and computer applications, along with two (2) years of experience in transportation planning or related projects where assessment of urban sustainability is needed (on fields such as transit or urban design).
• Background in urban planning and transportation modeling is preferred.
• Working knowledge and experience with transit-oriented development principles and sustainable development practices is desirable.
• Demonstrates experience on the management of densities, transit corridors and/or transportation analysis.
• Demonstrates advanced knowledge of transportation surveying methods, technical aspects to build an infrastructure catalog, research methods, urban sustainability and implications of a Transit oriented model of development.
• Computer skills on ArcGIS and TransCAD.
• Knowledge of land use regulations, legal, infrastructure, development control, finance and economics and other considerations that are part of plan and policy implementation.
• Applies project management concepts (e.g., project goals, scope, and the importance of principles such as time and cost).
• Proven ability to read and interpret engineering plans, drawings, and specifications.
• Working knowledge of zoning ordinances and planning procedures.
• Must be capable of acquiring knowledge of Municipal Bylaws, processes and procedures.
• Must possess proven leadership ability and skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively with the public and staff and tactfully handle complaints and inquiries.
• Excellent presentation, interpersonal, analytical and organizational skills are required.
• Valid Class Five (5) driver's license and a personal vehicle for business use is required.
• Must be willing to attend evening meetings and work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Must be medically and physically able to perform all the duties of the job on an ongoing basis
$48.24 (Probationary Rate)
$52.97 – $56.86 (Permanent Rates)
