Description

The Corporation of the City of St. Catharines, with a population of 132, 000, located in the heart of the Niagara Region. Our Recreation and Community Services department is currently seeking applications for the position of Supervisor of Museum Operations/Curator.

Duties and Responsibilities:Liaise with The Museum Advisory Committee to develop Policies, Procedures and the Strategic Planning process related to the St. Catharines Museum

▪ Assist with the development and implementation of Exhibit Plan with Collections, Program and Hospitality Coordinators

▪ Ensure that the Ontario Museum Standards are adhered to and kept up to date with legal and ethical requirements; monitoring and approving all Artifacts for Accession and De-accession into the Collection

▪ Ensure the Collection has proper storage; environmental conditions are maintained and staff and volunteers can access the collection both physically and visually

▪ Advise staff on the conservation and restoration of artifacts ▪ Develop effective marketing and promotional activities and assist, where practical, with special events and fundraising activities designed to enhance the performance and viability of tenants

▪Develop a business plan for the Welland Canal Centre, attending various events that impact stake holders and community groups

▪ Responsible for the day-to-day management of the Welland Canals Centre facility, including development and management of the facility budget of approximately $1,500,000 in consultation with the Director of Recreation and Community Services

▪ Liaise with the Collections Coordinator; Program Coordinator and Hospitality Services Coordinator to direct the duties of all staff at the Welland Canals Centre

▪ Responsible for daily supervision of staff; performing job evaluations and resolving labour related issues as they arise

▪Liaise with tenants on issues including facility and grounds maintenance, operating hours, special events, leasing issues, visitor programs and the overall performance of the facility.

 

Requirements

University Degree in Museum studies specializing in Collections management, artifact care, theory and practice of archival work, or equivalent experience

▪ Minimum five years experience in facilities, museums or attractions management, including staff supervision and marketing experience

▪ Strong financial management and budgeting skills including knowledge and experience in revenue generating initiatives

▪ Outstanding communications and organizational skills, and strong personnel management and negotiation skills

▪ Excellent computer and database management skills

▪ Ability to meet deadlines; willingness to work outside of normal business hours

▪ Ability to work independently ▪ Must maintain ability to travel in a timely manner to other offices, work locations or sites as authorized by the Corporation for business reasons.
 

Salary & Benefits

$53,896 to $67,369 annually
