Description:

Bring peace to the citizens of Edmonton and join our Transit Security section to ensure safe transportation for the public. You will learn how to respond and resolve diverse situations that occur on a daily basis, will be given ample training throughout your career to help you become a well rounded enforcement officer, and get to work on close team of Transit Peace Officers to ensure everyone gets home safe. Responsibilities include:

• Providing patrons of ETS with general assistance and exceptional customer service

• Responding to security related incidents, emergencies and intrusion alarms

• Enforcing municipal bylaws and Provincial Statutes

• Conducting mobile and foot patrols on ETS property and facilities

• Investigating complaints

• Retaining and securing evidence and records

• Providing witness testimony in court

• Transporting fare media and cash

• ETS fare collection and crowd management at special events

• Monitoring and enforcing proof of payment

• Ensuring facilities are secure (locked/unlocked)

• Performing other related duties as required


 

Requirements

In order to be successful in your new role, you will utilize your strong customer service skills with your attention to detail to learn the layout of the City, write accurate reports, take the initiative to prevent situations, and ensure you are visible for the safety of your fellow teammates, transit operators, and the public.


In order to achieve this, you have:

• Completion of Grade Twelve (12) and completion of a recognized Diploma related to Law Enforcement, Security or Criminology

• minimum of three (3) years of strong customer service experience and at least one (1) year of diverse law enforcement experience

• Current certification in Standard First Aid and Basic CPR

• Possession of a valid Alberta Class 5 Motor vehicle operator's license or operators licensing equivalent recognized by the Operator Licensing and Vehicle Control Regulation, Alta. Reg. 320/2002

• Skilled in exercising good tact, sound judgment and firmness in dealing with difficult situations and with the public

• Knowledge of applicable policies, bylaws, acts, legislation and basic principles of loss prevention

• Knowledge of powers of arrest

• Understanding of officer safety techniques

• Strong verbal and written communication skills

• Ability to defuse potentially volatile situations, and to recognize and react appropriately to dangerous situations

• Ability to use current computer software including word processing and databases



Note: Applicants may be tested



Applicants will be required to provide:

• A current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of application) indicating at least a class 5 licence and showing no suspensions and no more than four (4) demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period

• Copies of current certification in Standard First Aid and Basic CPR

• Security clearance check prior to starting in the position

Successful candidates will be subject to successfully obtaining/completing:

• A Rail Division "B" rule book Certification and maintaining qualifications

• PPCT and/or PSS training, and other training deemed necessary

• The Physical Abilities Readiness Evaluation (P.A.R.E.) within 4 minutes and 45 seconds (4:45)

• Municipal Bylaw Enforcement Officer Status / Community Peace Officer Status, and a City of Edmonton Drivers Permit

• An enhanced Security Clearance during the six (6) month probationary period



HOURS OF WORK: 40 hours/week, various shifts including days, evenings and nights, 7 days a week.

Salary & Benefits

SALARY RANGE: Awaiting CPO Status: 404, Salary Grade: 005, $26.358 - $29.188 (Hourly).

With CPO Status: 404, Salary Grade: 006, $30.170 - $33.431 (Hourly).
