Climate Leadership Institute

Organization: BC Municipal Climate Leadership Council
Location: Canada, British Columbia, Richmond
Date: Nov 1, 2017
Date End: Nov 3, 2017
Description:
With local governments influencing over 55% of greenhouse gas emissions in BC, locally elected officials need the hard skills and knowledge to lead their community into the green future they desire. The BC Municipal Climate Leadership Council is hosting the Climate Leadership Institute from November 1-3, 2017 at the Hilton Vancouver Airport in Richmond, BC.

The event offers 2.5 days of intensive learning for municipal elected officials with leading professionals, peers, and inspirational colleagues from the BCMCLC.

The ideal time to lead on climate action is now with the BC government’s renewed commitment to climate change action and federal government support through the Pan Canadian Framework on Clean Growth & Climate Change and future infrastructure money for municipalities.

Key focus areas of the training institute include:

  • Communication: Learn ways to effectively communicate the importance of acting on climate change and build support with your internal and external stakeholders.
  • Planning: Discover best practices and policies to ensure a climate action lens is embedded in every decision your community makes over the long term.
  • Knowledge sharing: Hear about successful solutions and innovative ideas in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and energy use in other BC communities and learn how to adapt them to your own community.

Early bird registration is $245 per person (until October 1).

**Elected officials earn 3 credit hours toward any level of Local Government Leadership Academy Certification. While this event is tailored to elected officials, municipal staff involved in climate change planning are welcome to attend (1 staff per community).**
