Description
We are in search of a qualified individual to join the Electric Utility team in the role of Apprentice Power Line Technician. A preference will be placed on individuals who currently have two or three years into the Power Line Apprenticeship program. Upon successful completion of the remaining Apprenticeship, resulting in Red Seal certification, the incumbent may move into a Journeyman Power Line Technician position with the City of New Westminster.

Requirements

• Completion of Grade 12 with English 12, Math 12 and Physics 12;
• Class 3 driver’s license with air brake endorsement;
• Two to three years completion of a current Power Line Technician apprenticeship is preferred (The City of New Westminster would assume sponsorship of the remaining apprenticeship term);
• Experience in performing hands-on, physical work outdoors in all weather conditions;
• Demonstrated trades and mechanical aptitude;
• Ability to safely operate a variety of tools and equipment required for the work, such as hand tools, chainsaws, chain and strap hoists, etc;
• Physically capable of performing all aspects of the work including climbing various structures and heavy lifting as required;
• Ability to perform a variety of manual record-keeping tasks such as pre-trip inspections;
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team and follow written and oral instructions;
• Strong interpersonal skills and are able to deal effectively with both internal and external customers;
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with a wide variety of internal and external contacts;
• Ability to establish and maintain effective liaison and working relationships and to employ good service excellence principles.
