Are you interested in taking a lead role in the corporate financial accounting and reporting for the City of Edmonton? If so, consider this Senior Accountant position with the Corporate Accounting and Reporting office of the Financial Services and Utilities Department.
Key responsibilities include:
• Preparing year-end financial schedules and analysis in support of the consolidated financial statements, municipal information return and other reporting
• Drafting consolidated financial statements, including appropriate reclassification and elimination entries for multiple entities, in accordance with Public Sector Accounting Board (PSAB) requirements
• Participating in ad-hoc financial projects and developing responses to requests for information as required
• Reviewing and implementing new requirements for accounting and reporting. Documentation of processes and effective business process improvements
• Preparing monthly reconciliations including corporate bank accounts, and accounting for and reporting on investment funds
• Supporting the Capital Coordinator in providing advice, interpretation, and training with respect to financial requirements, policies and procedures to operational and finance staff concerning Debt Management and scenario analysis
• Reviewing and incorporating leadership principles in implementation of new requirements for capital accounting and reporting. Performing continuous process reviews and initiating change management practices
• In coordination with the corporate budget area, preparing capital budgets and forecasting information for the corporate operating program allocating pay-as-you-go financing and tax-supported debt servicing charges
• A recognized professional accounting designation (CA, CMA, CGA)
• Five (5) years of progressive financial experience in budget, accounting and reporting within a large organization. Experience working within a municipal environment would be of advantage
• Experience with accounting for investments would be considered an asset
• Highly developed analytical and conceptual skills for application in a complex financial environment
• Effective prioritization and organizational skills
• Technical proficiency in major financial and analytical software systems and Microsoft Excel, with SAP experience being desirable. Experience with Google Docs and Google Gmail is an asset
• Ability to communicate effectively and maintain working relationships with all levels of management and non-management personnel
Hours of Work: 33.75 hours per week, Monday - Friday. Hours of work may be subject to the terms and conditions of a variable hours of work program
Salary Range: 21M, Salary Grade: 033, $45.055 - $56.907 (Hourly); $79,375.65 - $100,255.91 (Annually). The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton
