WE have a number of MAJOR projects requiring YOUR urban design expertise; for instance:
• The north edge of downtown is being reshaped with a new entertainment centre, new museum, and a new performing arts centre
• Chinatown is being revisioned and reconnected to our downtown
• Two major LRT corridors with TOD considerations are on the boards
• A very active public art program is part of our mandate
We're excited for the Urban Designers who grab this OPPORTUNITY to shape HOW Edmonton grows. We've started but we need YOUR help to:
• Research and create visionary urban design plans
• Review and add value to development proposals
• Prepare policies and guidelines for statuary plans
• Prepare public space concept plans, preliminary designs and detailed design drawings for tender
• Prepare public/stakeholder communication plans, seeking input from citizens and stakeholders
• Oversee capital and operating budgets for projects of varying size and complexity
• Coordinate projects with other city departments, outside agencies and stakeholder groups
• Manage consultant contracts as required
• Prepare and conduct workshops, charettes, and lectures that promote good urban desi
• A Degree in Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Urban Design or a related field. A Masters degree is preferred
• Minimum of 4 years of progressively responsible urban design experience
• Excellent planning and design skills including, but not limited to; the formulation of urban design policies and guidelines, the preparation of creative designs, drawings using CAD, and the ability to work with a wide cross-section of staff and citizen groups to gain interest and support for proposals
• Solid knowledge of the technology related to urban design
• Ability to create and internally market innovative urban design plans
• Project management skills and the understanding of costing, financing and capital budget considerations
• Demonstrated knowledge of building and/or landscape construction practices
• Strong communication, written, verbal, and interpersonal skills as well as the ability to make presentations are essential
• Must be eligible for membership in Canadian professional associations of planning or architecture or landscape architecture
Hours of Work: 33.75 hours per week, Monday - Friday. Hours of work may be subject to the terms and conditions of a variable hours of work program
Salary Range: 21M, Salary Grade: 032; $42.306 - $53.987 (Hourly); $74,532.60 - $95,111.60 (Annually). The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmon
