The City of Surrey Engineering Department has an opportunity for a Civil Engineering student in its Engineering Utility Sewer Planning and Water Planning Sections.
As a junior technical staff member you would provide support and assistance to senior engineering staff in administrative responsibilities, and performing moderate to complex technical work related to the completion of a variety of civil engineering activities and projects.
Listed below are the major functions the student would be responsible for both water and sewer planning. With respect to Water Planning, incumbents would perform metered water consumption data analysis; water balances on pressure zones; and correlate services with onsite meter and backflow devices. Duties in Sewer Planning would involve Inflow and Infiltration Studies (I&I), flow data analysis, and perform limited field work.
The successful candidate must be a team player, who possesses the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships; understand and interpret engineering plans and specifications; collect and analyze data; work independently and be self motivating; and willing and able to learn Microsoft Access.
Applicants must have completed their first year of a degree program in a related engineering discipline. A valid Class 5 BC driver's license and a safe driving record is asset. Applicants with a Class 7 BC driver’s license may be required to use their own vehicle for business purposes and purchase necessary business insurance. The City of Surrey reimburses 53 cents per kilometer for use of a personal vehicle.
