Through continuous training and mentorship by the Senior Fire Protection Engineer as well as access to state of the art resources, your day-to-day responsibilities will include:


• Be a key point of contact working with multiple stakeholders City Wide with a specific focus on supporting the operations of Fire Rescue Services applying technical analysis of specialized safety equipment, and fire apparatus specific to the fire protection industry
• Technical review of development applications, assist with planning initiatives, and review engineering designs and drawings
• Contribute to public safety through application of state of the art engineering science, impacting public safety codes, standards, and practices both locally and nationally
• Participate in developing and evaluating operational processes and guidelines using strong engineering principles, ensuring a high-degree of safety to the public, as well as emergency responders
• Assist in the review and development of safety codes, regulations, standards and bylaws and evaluating their effects on safety
• Represent the Branch as a Fire Industry Expert and Liaise with other areas with Fire Rescue and with the support of an amazing community of peers and professionals carry out exciting and engaging special projects.
• Liaising with other areas with Fire Rescue Services such as Fire Prevention and Fire Investigations to provide technical support on issues related to fire safety science

Requirements

 • Completion of a Bachelor's degree in Engineering from a recognized university preferably with course-work in Fire Protection Engineering
• A minimum of four (4) years engineering experience in mechanical design, safety code consultation or fire Protection design. Those with less than 4 years of experience may still be considered at the EIT level
• P.Eng OR Engineer in Training (EIT) registered with APEGA or eligible for registration with APEGA
• Certification with the National Fire Protection Association and the Society of Fire Protection Engineers would be an asset
• Familiarity/Experience with Fire Protection Engineering would be considered an asset
• Strong knowledge of municipal planning processes, hazardous processes and materials
• Ability to be resourceful research, analyze, and summarize highly technical data
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to make public presentations
• A valid Alberta Class 5 Driver's License or operators licensing equivalent recognized by the Operator Licensing and Vehicle Control Regulation, Alta. Reg. 320/2002
• An original Police Information Check or Certified Criminal Record Check issued within the past 6 months that is satisfactory to the employer will be required before starting in the position. New hires will be required to obtain this check from Edmonton Police Services or a local RCMP detachment. Please note, this may take up to 3 weeks to process
• Applicants will be required to arrange their own transportation and where appropriate will be reimbursed in accordance with the City of Edmonton policy. This may require the applicant to obtain business use auto insurance

Hours of Work: 36.9 hours per week, Monday - Friday. Hours of work may be subject to the terms and conditions of a variable hours of work program

Salary & Benefits

Salary Range: 91M, Salary Grade: PE2, $68,977 - $98,540 (Annually). Those individuals not having the Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or less than four (4) years experience may be considered for the position at a lower Salary Grade: PE1, $55,048 - $78,646 (Annually)
