Description
Are you interested in working within a team environment where you will perform professional/senior technical accounting work? Do you have excellent communication and time management skills? If so, consider this Accountant position which reports to a Senior Accountant supporting Corporate Properties at the City of Edmonton.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Technical and professional advice: Providing department officials with professional advice and guidance in matters pertaining to financial policies and procedures 
  • Budget Preparation: Coordinating and maintaining the long range financial plan, preparing and monitoring budget information, trend analysis, cash flow, and projection updates
  • Maintaining the General Ledger: Preparing, researching, and managing Journal entries, cost center assessments, interdepartmental billing charges, cost allocations, and any other related general functions
  • Year End Statement Package: Preparing and organizing year end working papers, departmental financial statement preparation, and other related year end duties
  • Performance and Financial Reporting: Preparing monthly performance reports, variance analysis, and other various ad hoc financial reports
  • Performing other related duties as required
Requirements
  • A Professional Accounting Designation (CA, CMA, CGA) OR an accounting-related Business Degree (bachelor)
  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible accounting experience
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, requirements and practices
  • Knowledge of the corporate financial system (SAP) and its inter-relationship to departmental accounting operations would be an asset
  • Ability to think logically and complete work with a high degree of accuracy
  • Strong Excel, Word and database skills required. Familiarity with Google Docs and Google Gmail is considered an asset
  • Ability to prepare a variety of complex and diverse financial statements and reports
  • Ability to communicate effectively and maintain working relationships with all levels of management and non-management personnel
  • Prior experience in working in a public practice would be an asset
Salary & Benefits

Hours of Work: 33.75 hours per week, Monday - Friday. Hours of work may be subject to the terms and conditions of variable hours of work program

Salary Range: 21M, Salary Grade: 025, $35.631 - $44.736 (Hourly); $62,772.91 - $78,813.65 (Annually). The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton
