Position Title: Director of Corporate Services

Position Summary:
Provides financial, investment and policy advice to council, and co-ordinates Town Office financial support services.
Position Reports To:
Chief Administrative Officer

General Duties of this Position:
Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the Director of Corporate Services oversees the organization’s finances and provides support and guidance to Council and senior management on related matters.
Responsibilities include:
• Development of financial policies (e.g. regarding investment, purchasing, cash flow, reserve management).
• Reports and recommendations to Council, committees and senior management.
• Monitoring of the organization’s financial position.
• Controls and systems to protect municipal assets and reduce risk. Compliance with statutory requirements pertaining to municipal finance.
• Preparation and presentation of annual and long-term budgets (in conjunction with senior management).
• Management of department staff in a supportive, progressive environment..
• Overall responsibility for accounting functions e.g. payroll, accounts payable, tax collection.
• The position requires excellent communication, leadership and organizational skills.
• Health and Safety: Must adhere to all safety standards under the Occupational Health and Safety Legislation, Town Policies and Procedures and WHMIS Guidelines. For specific responsibilities of this position, refer to the Town’s Health and Safety Policy, Section 2 – Responsibilities for CAO, Directors, Supervisors and Workers.

Signing authority for the Town of Slave Lake.
Required Qualifications of this Position:
• Proven supervision and management skills.
• A professional accounting designation and/or university degree with an accounting major.
• Five years of ‘hands on’ financial experience at a management level, preferably in a municipal organization.
• Equivalencies will be considered.
