Volunteer Resources - Healthy Communities – Community & Recreation Services is looking for suitably qualified and experienced individuals capable of successfully developing and delivering a quarterly Leadership course tailored to City of Surrey youth volunteers (14 – 21yrs). The City believes it is important to build capacity in Surrey citizens. We also believe that offering developmental opportunities to volunteers is a form of recognition for their dedication. We rely on the fact that people want to be engaged, that they want to learn and contribute to their community

Volunteer Resources offers a wide range of professional development opportunities tailored to City of Surrey volunteers as part of our Volunteer Development Program. This helps us with our vision to build capacity in the community while offering opportunities for volunteers to learn grow and lead through our tailored workshops designed to sharpen and develop their skills. The successful candidate will develop, facilitate and evaluate a Leadership course as part of our Volunteer Development Program tailored to City of Surrey volunteers.

Once developed, the Leadership course should focus on various aspects of leadership including but not limited to the fundamentals of leadership, identifying goal and goal setting, types of leaders, characteristics of strong leaders and basic group dynamics. Each area of focus should be: interactive, inclusive, informative and reflective.

This course should be a fun and interactive introduction to leadership, easy to understand, current and customized to City of Surrey volunteers. The Volunteer Development Program Leadership course must show how it will help our volunteers develop in each of the following focus areas:

• Fundamentals of Leadership. Introductory elements to youth leadership.
• Identifying Personal Goals and Goal Setting. How to identify, keep and meet personal goals.
• Types of Leaders. Identifying the various types of leaders and what type of leader the participant is.
• Characteristics of Strong Leaders. Recognize what qualities make a strong leader and how to be a strong youth leader.
• Basic Group Dynamics. Introduction to basic concepts of group dynamics

 

Requirements

Candidates must have a current Emergency First Aid, CPR and computer skills. Completion of a criminal records check record will be required.
We are looking for a mature individual with a diverse background in developing and delivering leadership focused curriculum with a minimum 2 years related experience. Post secondary education is an asset.
