The City of St. Albert is committed to maintaining strong intergovernmental relationships in support of City Council’s strategic priorities to ensure the City’s future success. We are recruiting for a Manager, Government Relations to support the City’s senior administrators in ensuring the City’s intergovernmental objectives are met, our regional interests are protected and to further the City of St. Albert’s reputation as a collaborative leader.

Reporting to the Director of Strategic Services, the Manager will be responsible to:

  • Monitor and provide strategic advice, research, plans, and analysis related to public policy, trends, and the decisions of other governments.
  • Develop and implement annual advocacy and engagement plans in alignment with the City’s strategic objectives, particularly relative to the City’s provincial advocacy priorities.
  • Work to maintain and enhance the City’s relationships and reputation with other governments.
  • Serve as an administrative conduit for other governments, advocacy associations, and other related groups.
  • Attend intergovernmental meetings and coordinate internal activities, communications, and initiatives.
  • Provide regular reports to administrative and elected officials on key initiatives.
  • Support elected officials in regional forums.
  • Identify innovative means to advance the City’s government relations efforts in a coordinated manner.
  • Evaluate federal and provincial government budget and policy releases and their implications on the organization and community.
     

HOURS OF WORK
We offer a compressed work schedule of 72 hours bi-weekly. Monday to Friday, 8:00 – 5:00, with a regular day off [RDO] once every two weeks.

Requirements
  • Completion of a post-secondary degree in the area of Political Science, Business, Public Administration or a related field. Equivalencies may be considered.
  • Significant knowledge and experience in government relations, supporting elected official and senior management, and advancing external relationships.
  • A proven track record of advocacy success.
  • We seek applicants with senior level experience, preferably within the public sector.
  • Affiliation with the Government Relations Institute of Canada is an asset.
  • Well developed communication and presentation skills combined with exceptional interpersonal skills and strong political acumen.

Salary & Benefits

COMPENSATION
$96,690 – $117,639 per annum. In addition the City of St. Albert offers a comprehensive benefit package.
