Reporting to the Superintendent of Operations (Roads), and under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent of Operations (Storm Water Management) the Working Foreman (SWM) will be responsible for:

  • the duties involved in the maintenance of all storm water facilities, roads and ditches, sidewalks, bridges, and methane monitoring;

  • provide guidance and direction to front line staff, including training and performance monitoring;

  • scheduling and planning work;

  • inspection and monitoring of all aspects of storm water and road maintenance operations;

  • preparation and completion of all required reports and paperwork;

  • inventory control;

  • customer service and other duties as may be assigned.

The incumbent will be directly involved in winter snow and ice control operations and participate in the Working Foreman After Hours On-Call rotation and will be required to provide backup coverage in the absence of the Working Foremen (Roads/Traffic).

Requirements

As the successful applicant, you will possess:

  • a minimum two (2) year Post Secondary Diploma in Environmental Engineering Technology, Civil Engineering Technology or a related field;

  • Storm Water Management training;

  • supervisor training courses;

  • Mahoney Road School or equivalent;

  • a minimum of two (2) years of directly related experience in maintenance of storm water facilities, roads and ditches, sidewalks, bridges, and methane monitoring;

  • strong administrative, numerical and research skills to complete paperwork, estimates and ensure quality standards;

  • strong technical, analytical, and problem solving skills to effectively resolve issues;

  • the ability to effectively organize and prioritize projects and work assignments;

  • possess a demonstrated working knowledge of computer programs, including a working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook);

  • well-developed interpersonal and public relations skills and the ability to communicateboth verbally and in written form, in a clear, concise, effective and courteous manner in order to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the general public;

  • an ability to work well in a team environment, as well as independently with minimal supervision;

  • be able to exercise discretion, judgement and diplomacy;

  • the ability to schedule staff, distributing workload fairly and equitably;

  • excellent time management skills;

  • the ability to train new staff and monitor performance;

  • the ability and willingness to respond outside of regular working hours on an “on-call” rotation; and,

  • a valid “DZ” Driver’s License maintained in good standing or willing to obtain within the probationary period.

Salary & Benefits

Salary: $28.47 - $35.58 per hour

Hours: Monday to Friday – 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
