As a Senior Development Engineer, you will lead a team that evaluates the proposals and submissions of the land development industry. You will ensure these reviews are complete from a drainage perspective, comply with applicable regulations, and manage response to these submissions. By using your creativity, you will bring efficiency and consistency in the review process that enables your team to provide an effective drainage service to the planning and development activities that warrant a smooth and eco-friendly urban growth.
Reporting to the General Supervisor, Core and Mature Communities, some key accountabilities include:
- Lead the team in the technical evaluation and review process of the land development applications submitted by the private land development industry
- Lead and initiate improvements in operating processes and procedures through creative thinking and take an inclusive approach with stakeholders
- Develop a high performing team and address performance, workload, quality, and productivity issues to ensure delivery of excellent service to customers
- Monitor progress of projects and be proactive in meeting deadlines
- Handle issues related to development projects, which are conducted under Servicing Agreements between the City and private developers
- Investigate issues and make recommendations in the subsections administrative, technical, and budgetary functions
- Prepare comprehensive responses to the inquiries and referrals from senior management, Council, City departments, development industry, and the public
- All work is to be performed in accordance with the Environmental Management System (ISO 14001)
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized University
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registered with APEGA or registered as Professional Engineer (P.Eng) with the engineering association of another province of Canada
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in drainage systems planning and engineering
- Minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience
- Sound engineering skills in the areas of hydraulics and hydrology with due consideration of environmental requirements relating to sewer networks, hydraulic structures, stormwater management facilities and associated aspects of municipal engineering
- Knowledge of the processes of municipal planning, design, funding and construction of drainage systems
- Ability to motivate others and can develop a high performing team
- Strong negotiation and communication skills both written and verbal and ability to develop and maintain effective business relationship with clients
- Proven effectiveness in a heavy workload and high customer service demand environment
- Knowledge of personal computers and City network systems operation
