The Communications Coordinator is to provide communications expertise and support to guide Yellowhead County's Corporate Communications Program. Overall responsibilities include the development and implementation of internal and external communications strategies, including media relations, communication product content development and production, coordination of website content and design, public relations, marketing and economic initiatives.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Create and maintain a positive public image of Yellowhead County.

• Develop and maintain a strong presence within the community, with both residents and businesses.

• Ensure that employees and residents are well informed of our policies, programs and services.

• Enhance customer service.

• Obtain feedback and conduct evaluative surveys of employee and resident satisfaction and the effectiveness of Communications initiatives.

• Develop and manage the content, production (design and print) and distribution of all communications products, from concept through to completion, to ensure accurate and effective communication with staff, public and media. Products include County Newsletter, Special Notices, and Fact Sheets etc.

• Coordinate all News Releases and Council Highlights with the CAO.

• Provide media monitoring of newspapers and websites for accuracy of news releases and articles related to County business, programming or Council decisions.

• Coordinate and facilitate County's weekly newspaper advertising.

• Assist with various special projects and participate in the communication planning process in consultation with the CAO.

• Facilitate all aspects of Corporate Identity, Branding and Promotional Product Development.

Work with all staff and Council to increase awareness of the importance of a consistent visual identity across all programs and communications products.

• Work in conjunction with graphic design and website professionals and internal Information Technology staff to facilitate the growth and maintain the County website. Includes monitoring and review of all website content and facilitation of content updates.

• Assist with the coordination and organization of external special events designed to heighten the profile of the County such as community participatory events, information sessions, open houses, and business recognition opportunities.

• Act as the main liaison with tourism operators in the County and serve as the County representative in regional tourism-related initiatives.

• Maintain, compile and update Yellowhead County Community Profiles through the County website, external web links i.e. albertafirst.com and in print related products for distribution.

• Serve as an active member of the Disaster Services Team.

• Prepare annual operating and capital budgets for Communications and Economic Development.

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Skills

• A university degree or post-secondary diploma in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Business Administration or related discipline.

• Three (3) years relevant experience in a general corporate communications environment.

• Ability to work independently using initiative to complete projects and prioritize duties and workload efficiently in a multi-tasking environment.

• Advanced proficiency of Microsoft Office including PowerPoint and Excel

• Working knowledge of graphic design principles and software as well as production and printing practices.

• Defensive driving

• Valid Class 5 drivers license

Attributes

• Superior writing skills and a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively to diverse audiences using a variety of communication methods.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Skills

• Five (5) years experience in a general corporate communications environment

• Proven experience writing and editing copy for a variety of communication products such as

news releases, articles, advertisements, reports, fact sheets, etc.

Experience In

• Municipal government setting

• Desktop publishing

 

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

• Work is conducted in an open office environment

 

Salary & Benefits

The salary range for this position is $64,942 to $82,206 per year. Yellowhead County offers a competitive benefits package. Closing date for this competition is May 12, 2017.
