Description
The District of Saanich is seeking an experienced municipal administration professional to lead the staff and operations of the Legislative Division.  The Legislative Services Manager is responsible for business of the Municipal Council and its Appointment Committees, the municipality’s legislative functions including preparation of agendas and minutes for Council.  In addition, this position:

  • Fulfills the statutory duties of the Corporate Officer under the Community Charter.
  • Oversees management of the Corporate Records Program and the Municipal Archives.
  • Has the authority and responsibility to manage the corporate Privacy Management program, and acts as co-head to the FIPPA program.
  • Is responsible for the conduct of all municipal elections and referenda.
  • Supervises staff engaged in legislative duties, records management, privacy management, archives and elections.

You are a strategic thinker with proven collaborative, interpersonal, and communication skills.  You have a thorough understanding of the statutory requirements and functions of a municipal government and the ability to handle a wide range of complex tasks under tight deadlines while maintaining confidentiality at all times.  You are comfortable working in a political environment, and as a representative of the District, handling public issues using your superior problem solving and conflict resolution capabilities.

Requirements

Requirements include a University Degree in Public Administration, Business Administration or a related field; eight years’ related experience, including three years’ in a management supervisory role in Municipal Administration with sufficient professional qualifications to qualify for a Certificate in local government statutory administration.  Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Salary & Benefits

The annual salary for this exempt position is $115,180 to $134,705 with an excellent benefits package.  Role profile and competition information can be found at www.saanich.ca.
