OPPORTUNITY

We are looking for a Director to provide strategic planning, leadership and management of the Economic Development department. The Director will lead the department’s efforts to retain and grow businesses and attract new investment to St. Albert’s economy in partnership with the community and key stakeholders. The Director will also ensure that strategies are developed and implemented to promote St. Albert as an exceptional place to live, visit and do business. In this position you will provide strategic support to enhance the overall economic prosperity of the City of St. Albert and market St. Albert as a place to invest in residential, commercial and industrial opportunities.

As Director you report to the City Manager and lead a dynamic, passionate and engaged team of 10 staff members who deliver service in five main functional areas: Business Retention and Expansion, Business Attraction, Business Licensing, Tourism and Analytics.

HOURS OF WORK

This position works 40 hours per week (Monday to Friday, 8:00 – 5:00) and receives 1 Earned Day Off (EDO) per month.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will bring a thorough knowledge of economic development best practices, strategic planning, relationship management and management principles. Proven experience (10+ years) in business development and economic development with at least 5 years at a management level. Post-secondary education in business, marketing, economic development, planning, engineering or a related field. Economic Development certification will be considered an asset.

The person we seek has strong interpersonal and communication skills, combined with an ability to influence. They will build trusted relationships with the Economic Development team and a variety of internal and external stakeholders. Our successful applicant will bring a mix of vision, creativity, and political savvy to develop and execute strategies that help the City achieve its goals.

Salary & Benefits

COMPENSATION

$125,497 - $152,688 per annum. In addition, the City of St. Albert offers a generous and comprehensive benefit package including a defined benefit pension plan.
