Position Overview: This is the ideal opportunity for someone who is seeking to make meaningful and direct impacts in the community through the use of their strategic communication, creative marketing, and collaboration skills. You will have the opportunity to further develop your strong relationship-building and leadership skills as you collaborate with many talented people inside and outside the organization to achieve our common goals; openness, transparency and ensuring the best use of tax payer’s dollars. This position will provide you with autonomy, as you will be required to take the lead on the development and implementation of the communication and public engagement strategies for the organization. This role will be assigned many high priority responsibilities, so the successful applicant will have the opportunity to make a valuable contribution to the organization and lead meaningful assignments through to completion.

In addition to playing a key strategic business role in our organization, as leader of your small team of two communication experts you will also participate in the day to day operations and implementation of communication strategies, projects and tasks. As you seek to tackle this diverse portfolio of challenging and interesting communication assignments, you will have the opportunity to build upon your marketing and sales skills in many areas of communications such as; implementation of strategic marketing and sales plans for various business units, brand design and management, development of marketing and advertising materials, website and social media development,  budgeting, media relations and collaboration with partner organizations and stakeholders. Requirements

To be the best fit for this position, you must have a genuine interest and demonstrate thorough understanding of strategic communications theory and practice, marketing, community consultation and you must be comfortable speaking in front of a group and facilitating public open houses or workshops. Your active listening and exceptional verbal and written communications skills will help you to tackle tough conversations, controversies and deliver unwelcome messages with the openness, honesty, transparency and tact that defines our organization. As the front line face and representative of the Municipality- its professionals, councilors, committees and community members, you must be able to genuinely embody our culture, vison and values and represent the organization with respect and integrity in all your dealings.

This is a fantastic position for an innovative problem solver and strategic thinker who thrives on managing a diverse portfolio of  marketing, sales, media and communications assignments.  To be successful in this role you will need a minimum of 10 years related experience in a corporate communications role with demonstrated experience in; strategic corporate communications, issues management and media relations. In addition 4 years’ experience in a senior management role, demonstrated political acumen, and superior skills in written/verbal communication, strategic planning and analysis are also required. A related post-secondary degree from a recognized university in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or Marketing and Design will help provide you with the tools you need to be our next leader in communications.
