Reporting to the Director, Economic Development Services, or designate, responsible for developing and delivering marketing and investment attraction programs and campaigns that create a favourable impression of the City’s economy, tells the story of its growing prosperity and promotes opportunities for local and international investment and the creation of new jobs.  Key Responsibilities include:

  • Program Development and Management, including developing marketing and investment attraction strategies; preparing an annual work plan, budget and performance measures; developing partnerships and engaging  the business community and other parties; developing inter-governmental partnerships.
  • Marketing Services including undertaking/directing market research and intelligence gathering; directing the delivery of the City’s value proposition(s) to targeted audiences using a variety of traditional and social media channels; undertaking/managing the development of marketing content and materials; organizing business networking events, workshops and activities.
  • Investment Services including ensuring the integration of the marketing program; engaging the business, development and real estate communities; serving as a primary point of contact for investment attraction inquires; developing business cases, expansion strategies and investment packages for clients.
  • Communications including social media messaging and communications; preparing briefing materials, presentations and reports; and managing responding media inquiries.
  • Administration including developing, administering and monitoring the program budget; retaining and managing consultants, students, volunteers; approving and processing program related invoices
Requirements
  • Knowledge and skills normally associated with completion of a University degree in areas of Economic Development, Urban Planning, Business Administration or Marketing plus seven (7) years of direct economic development experience, preferably in a municipal setting.
  • Professional designation in Economic Development from either the Economic Developers Association of Canada or the International Economic Development Council would be an asset.
  • Advanced knowledge of marketing and communications strategies, best practices and techniques related to economic development.
  • Advanced knowledge of investment attraction strategies, and best practices and techniques within a municipal setting.
  • Advanced knowledge of program development, budgeting, administration and project management best practices and techniques.
  • Advanced knowledge of the attributes and qualities of the local economic base, economic sectors and ICI real estate market
  • Advanced skills and experience using PC equipment and related software applications (i.e. MS Office Suite, Project Management Software, Visio, Adobe etc.).
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills to deal effectively and tactfully with a broad range of senior management personnel, elected officials, staff, external agencies, other levels of government and the general public.

Employment Group:   Exempt  Salary:    $88,809-$104,481 per annum
