RECREATION PROGRAMMER

Recreation Services Department

Under the general guidance and direction of the Recreation Supervisor position, the Recreation Programmer position is responsible for creating, developing and implementing various recreation programs, services and/or special events that meet the needs and interests of the residents of the City of Barrie.  Specifically, this position oversees the delivery of various recreation programs; assesses and evaluates recreation programs; and networks, liaises, and partners with various stakeholders to coordinate, facilitate and collaborate in the delivery of recreation programs, services and special events.  Overall, this position plays an integral role in enabling the City to provide a comprehensive and enjoyable variety of recreation programs, services and special events for its residents.

Key Qualifications:

 

Education (degree/diploma/certifications)

  • Two (2) year College Diploma in Recreation, Recreation Therapy or related discipline
  • Standard First Aid, CPR Level C, and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Certifications
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Checks
  • Valid Personal Training Certification with additional fitness certifications from an accredited institution and/or association is preferred
  • Behavioural Management System (BMS) Certification from an accredited association, organization and/or institution is preferred
  • HIGH FIVE® Principles of Healthy Child Development Certificate from HIGH FIVE® National is preferred
  • Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s Licence in good standing with a reliable vehicle for use on corporate business

 

Experience

  • Two (2) years of experience performing duties related to the above mentioned major responsibilities within a recreation work environment.  Five (5) years of experience performing duties related to the above mentioned major responsibilities within a municipal recreation work environment is preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in recreation program development, administration, management and delivery

 

Knowledge/Skill/Ability

  • Advanced knowledge of recreation program development, administration, management and delivery
    • Working knowledge of the following standards, regulations and legislation:  Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA); Human Rights Code; Child Care and Early Years Act; Employment Standards Act
  • Advanced interpersonal, time management, organizational, problem solving, communication (verbal and written), teamwork and leadership skills
  • Intermediate computer literacy utilizing Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, and Word), a computerized registration system and desktop publishing software.   Basic computer literacy utilizing time and attendance software
  • Availability on a rotational basis to assist with after-hour inquires/situations, and/or to attend evening/weekend meetings or special events
Salary & Benefits

The 2016 salary range is $54,345 to $65,101 per year ($29.86 to $35.77 per hour).  The scheduled normal hours will consist of seven (7) hours per day and seventy (70) hours within the established fourteen day pay period.  For full details regarding this position, please visit our website at www.barrie.ca.
