Project Accountant – Flood Renewal

Term Ends: October 31, 2017

$42.75 to $46.24/hour

The Town of High River is seeking a positive, team focused professional for an opening as a Temporary Project Accountant - Flood Renewal.  The successful candidate for this position will exemplify the values of the Town (respectful, ethical, transparent and always acting in the best interest of the community), and have proven professional accomplishment in their field.

This is a temporary position that coordinates and supports the financial services activities within the Town’s Flood Renewal projects to ensure systems, processes and procedures support financial accountability and transparency and are consistent with the established financial systems used by the Town.  The focus of this position will be providing support to the Town in all aspects of financial planning as it relates to flood recovery and mitigation projects from the June 2013 flood event.  This position will report to the Manager of Financial Services - Renewal, but will work closely with the entire finance team.

Requirements

To qualify for this position, you will possess:

  • Post-Secondary Diploma/Degree in accounting or equivalent related education.

  • Five (5) years of progressive accounting experience.

  • Advanced skills in MS Excel.

  • The ability to work effectively and efficiently and able to work well under pressure while dealing with contentious and complex matters.

Additional consideration will be provided to those whom have:

  • Municipal accounting experience or progressive experience in a financial setting.

  • Ability to interpret contracts, tender documents, grant/funding agreements, municipal legislation, etc.

  • Knowledge of the Municipal Government Act or other government and legislative financial management policies.

  • Knowledge of the Disaster Relief Program (DRP) or other government disaster relief programs.

  • Knowledge of Bellamy municipal software is an asset.

  • Previous management or supervisory experience.
