- Manages assigned staff, including hiring, training and performance management. Organizes and directs staff primarily engaged in section objectives.
- Prepares and presents complex reports and recommendations to City Council, the Planning and Operations Committee, the Municipal Planning Commission, Technical Planning Commission and other committees as required.
- Represents the policy position of the Division, Department and Corporation with City Councillors, the public, media, external partners and clients.
- Collaborates with the Division Manager in the preparation of capital and operating budgets related to the section.
- Conducts and coordinates the preparation of special studies and research relating to planning and development issues, municipal bylaws, legislation and policy.
- Meets and negotiates with applicants and members of the public to address planning and development issues and matters of public policy.
- Liaises with other professionals, government agencies, property owners, consultants, community and business associations regarding planning and development matters.
- Ensures that public consultation and communication related to mandated areas are conducted in accordance with corporate Community Engagement Policy and Public Notice Policy.
- Collaborates with the Division Manager and General Manager to establish Division priorities and outcomes consistent with Department and Corporate Business Plans.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Degree in City Planning or a directly related discipline.
- 7 to 9 years’ progressively responsible experience in city planning and development, including supervisory responsibilities.
- Possession of full C.I.P. and A.P.C.P.S. memberships.
- Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and objectives of city planning.
- Thorough knowledge of applicable bylaws, policies, and Provincial Legislation and Regulations pertaining to city planning.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, the development industry, professionals in various fields and civic officials.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems and manage conflicts in a positive and timely manner.
- Demonstrated ability to make clear decisions in a prompt and consistent manner.
- Demonstrated research and presentations skills.
- Demonstrated skill in the operation of a computer with Microsoft Office applications.
$97,195.44 to $114,337.92 per annum.
