Description
Position Summary

  • Process and prepare reports respecting planning applications and applications for alterations to heritage properties submitted to the City;
  • Assist in the preparation and implementation of special planning studies and research projects;
  • Carry out data collection and maintenance analysis;
  • Provide planning information and advice to members of the public and assist in general planning administration;
  • Guide applicants and the public through the approval process;
  • Prepare and negotiate development agreements, present and discuss development proposals and reports with staff recommendations and persuasively represent the City at Committee and Public Meetings, OMB Hearings and Conservation Review Board Hearings;
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks with changing priorities and to present information and issues in a clear and concise manner;
  • Ability to perform a variety of duties related to properties of heritage significance, review proposals for alteration and provide technical and research support and advice on heritage planning policies, guidelines and objectives to the public applicants and other City Departments;
  • Review, create and maintain content and activities for the Heritage Resource Centre;
  • Provide support to various Heritage Kingston Committee working groups;
  • Present reports and recommendations to Heritage Kingston Committee;
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements

Qualifications, Competencies

  • Degree in Planning or related field plus 1 to 2 years of experience in Planning/Heritage Planning;
  • Membership or eligibility for membership in OPPI required;
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Software required;
  • Knowledge and experience with Planning procedures and processes, the Planning Act and Provincial Policy Statement;
  • Experience in Heritage Planning and knowledge of the Ontario Heritage Act is a requirement;
  • Must demonstrate corporate competencies of Customer Focus, Results Orientation, Integrity and Teamwork.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid class “G” driver’s license with the ability to provide your own vehicle;
  • Must obtain and maintain a satisfactory CPIC (Criminal Record Check), at candidate's own expense.
Salary & Benefits

Minimum Pay Rate: $28.85 Per Hour

Maximum Pay Rate: $35.96 Per Hour
