Transportation is a key strategic priority for the City of Surrey. We are looking to add a passionate, skilled, and knowledgeable Transportation Planner to our multidisciplinary team of dedicated professionals. The Transportation Planner works at the professional level involving complex, comprehensive research, analysis and interpretation of information regarding the City’s transportation plans and the implementation of various programs.

  • Your communication and public relations skills will be put to good use as you provide work on various community outreach and education programs and initiatives. This includes management of our school travel planning and bicycle training programs, road safety education, special events support and outreach to the public including public research on issues and attitudes on transportation.
  • Your customer and relationship management skills will be critical as you liaise with organizations such as TransLink and Metro Vancouver, as well as community groups, external committees, consultants, internal staff from other departments and the public.
  • Your broader knowledge of transportation and long-range planning will be in demand in supporting other policy development and studies within a collaborative and supportive team environment.     
  • Your organizational skills will enable you to balance the management and delivery of multiple projects within ambitious timelines while at the same time being a key resource for various duties in response to urgent issues.
  • You will use research and analytical skills to present complex information to internal staff, key stakeholders and senior management regarding both regional and city transportation initiatives.
Requirements

Qualified applicants will meet the following qualifications:

  • A Master’s Degree in Planning or a related discipline
  • A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in transportation or a related profession
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
