The Deputy Fire Chief position provides direct leadership and direction to programs and services in the areas of Fire Prevention, Code Enforcement, Public Education and Emergency Management. The scope of the position includes planning and managing outcomes related to building/fire code, bylaw investigation and enforcement; prevention programs and services; emergency planning, response and recovery, media relations. This includes staffing and resourcing responsibilities for the branch as well as strategic alliances with internal and external stakeholders. This position participates and supervises staff engaged in: the inspection of buildings and properties, the delivery of public education, pre-planning initiatives and the maintenance of related records. The position works collectively and provides support to the operation division.
QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION/TRAINING (IFSAC and/or Pro-Board)

Typically, the knowledge, skills and abilities required for this position are obtained through the completion of a Diploma/Degree in Fire Administration, Business Administration, Emergency Preparedness/Management or equivalent

Shall have five (5) to eight (8) years’ experience in fire prevention, inspection and investigation, Plan and site inspection reviews, Emergency Measures Organizations (EMO’s).

Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices in firefighting, as well as the use and care of fire apparatus and equipment. Five (5) years is preferred.

Experience and exposure in a senior level management and the incident command role is a must.
