SENIOR WATER WORKS OPERATOR

Environmental Services Department

 

The Senior Water Works Operator position assists in the daily operational and maintenance activities of the Class IV Water Distribution and Supply Subsystem to ensure the delivery of a continuous potable drinking water supply for the City of Barrie residents and citizens.  Specifically, this position inspects, repairs, installs, maintains, and troubleshoots mechanical equipment and treatment systems, as well as monitors, controls and responds to alarms using a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System (SCADA). Additionally, this position performs regulatory tasks such as water sampling and testing; checking records to ensure data collection and the drinking water system operations and maintenance is compliant with drinking water acts and regulations, the Occupational Health and Safety Act, branch and corporate policies and procedures, and conforms to the Drinking Water Quality Management Standard (DWQMS).  Overall, this position is responsible for protecting the municipal drinking water system from contamination. This is a critical function in ensuring the safety of the potable water supply to the City of Barrie residents and visitors.

 

 

Requirements

Applicants must have:                                                                                          

Education (degree/diploma/certifications)

  • Two (2) year College Diploma, Mechanical Engineering Technician, Electrical Engineering Technician, Civil Engineering Technician, or Environmental Engineering Technician.  A Four (4) year University Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering and/or Environmental Engineering is preferred.
  • Class II Certificate in Water Distribution and Supply and/or Class II Certificate in Water Treatment from the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MOECC).  A  Class IV Certificate in Water Distribution and Supply and/or Class IV Certificate in Water Treatment from the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MOECC) is preferred

·     Certified Cross Connection Control Specialist from the Ontario Water Works Association (OWWA)

·     Gas Chlorination Certificate

  • Standard First Aid and CPR Certificate
  • Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s Licence in good standing

 

Experience

·       Three (3) years of operating and maintenance experience in a Class II Water Distribution and Supply Subsystem.   Five (5) years of operating and maintenance experience in a Class IV Water Distribution and Supply Subsystem is preferred

 

Knowledge/Skill/Ability

·       Medical documentation to confirm medically fit to wear a respirator

·       Thorough knowledge of all of the applicable legislation, as it relates to a Class IV Water Distribution and Supply Subsystem.:

·       Thorough knowledge of requirements under the Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) as they relate to a Class IV Water Distribution and Supply Subsystem

·       Computer literacy utilizing Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer, SCADA (iFIX), and CMMS

Salary & Benefits
