OPERATIONS PROJECT CO-ORDINATOR - ROADS

Roads, Parks and Fleet Department

The Operations Project Coordinator (Roads) position acts as the technical subject matter expert for the delivery of the various services provided by the Roads and Parks Operations Branch. These services include wastewater collection, municipal drainage and storm water management, road and right of way systems, winter control, and railway operations.   This position performs project and process management duties including contract writing and administration.  These contracts can include railway operations, infrastructure repair and operation as well as administers professional services contracts such as engineering, environmental consultation, meteorology services, and equipment rental services.  This position monitors and reports on municipal performance measures and participating in committees and reporting both within and outside of the corporation.

 

The Operations Project Coordinator provides comments and recommendations for growth management and infrastructure designs, construction and renewal projects as well as other initiatives affecting the delivery of municipal services.  This requires expertise in infrastructure planning, design and operation to undertake the technical review to provide high value operational comments to a variety of project teams and individuals both within and outside of the corporation.  This position provides technical expertise including providing guidance and coordinating and or delivering training programs (e.g. Wastewater Collection Operator Certification and Winter Maintenance Training) to ensure that all staff members within receive the most up-to-date and effective training in order to meet service delivery and legislative requirements.

 

Requirements

Applicants must have:       

 

Education (degree/diploma/certifications)

  • Three (3) year College Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or Environmental Engineering Technology.
  • Eligibility and willingness to obtain Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change Operator-in-Training Licence in Wastewater Collection within one year of hire.   Possession of MOECC Operator-in-Training Licence in Wastewater Collection is preferred.
  • Eligibility and willingness to obtain a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) Designation from the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT) within two years of hire.   Possession of Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) Designation is preferred.
  • Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s Licence in good standing

 

Experience

  • Four (4) years of previous experience (Five (5) years of previous experience is preferred) with municipal operations and infrastructure including but not limited to wastewater collection, roads, structures, drainage and storm water management systems, and railway.
  • Demonstrated experience in municipal infrastructure design and construction and asset management is preferred.

 

Knowledge/Skill/Ability

  • Thorough working knowledge of legislation and regulations regarding municipal services and infrastructure.
  • Thorough understanding and knowledge of the design and construction of municipal infrastructure including the ability to read, interpret and provide operational feedback on designs and infrastructure being constructed and or assumed for operation.
  • An understanding of business and project management as well as budget and finance concepts for the administration of contracts.
  • Proficiency using the Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Project, Visio.  Good working knowledge of GIS/CAD software (AutoDesk ESRI) and GPS technology and Road Weather Information System (RWIS) software.
  • Excellent interpersonal, time management, organizational, analytical and communications skills with team building skill and ability to foster and contribute to a positive productive service –excellence work environment; and deal courteously and effectively with all contacts.
Salary & Benefits

The 2016 salary range is $67,017.60 to $80,288 per year ($32.22/hr to $38.60/hr).  The hours of work will be 40 hours/week.  For full details regarding this position, please visit our website at www.barrie.ca.
