The City of Medicine Hat Environmental Utilities Department prides itself in the efficient delivery of safe and reliable municipal water, wastewater and solid waste services. In our self-funded, progressive utility, a rare opportunity exists for a career minded, hands-on Wastewater Source Control Officer to be part of a dynamic, evolving team of professionals. Our successful candidate will assist with regulatory compliance by performing audits/inspections, surveillance, sampling, analysis, monitoring, interpretation and enforcement including reporting of commercial, Industrial, residential and mobile customers effect on the Wastewater system.
To be successful in the role one must demonstrate sound decision making processes and the drive to educate the public on proper processes and a working knowledge of standard lab handling procedures. A team based attitude and strong written and oral communication combined with previous knowledge of applicable Environmental Acts, Regulations, Licenses, Pluming codes, Bylaws and Policies is a must. The ability to read and interpret mechanical construction drawings and pipeline schematics while operating with minimum Supervision is required.

Required Qualifications:

Grade 12 High School Diploma, with Math, Chemistry and English 30

Alberta Environment Level IV Wastewater Treatment or Wastewater Collection Certification supplemented by wastewater courses on Pre-treatment, Facility Inspection, and Industrial Wastewater Treatment

A total of 8 years of work experience gained from the experience requirement for the Alberta Environment Level IV Wastewater Treatment or Wastewater Collection Certification, and 4 years of other related work experience.The total experience requirement includes:

3 years experience in public compliance inspection

2 years laboratory experience

3 years wastewater experience in a supervisory position

Valid Class V Alberta Driver’s License
