Now Hiring Temporary Senior Accounting Assistant

(Up to 18 months)

The Municipal Accounting team is seeking a Senior Accounting Assistant who will work closely with our designated accountants to provide service and support across the diverse organization.  Responsibilities in this temporary position include various reconciliations, working on year end working papers, and assisting with internal audits.  Using your expert computer skills (especially MS Excel), coupled with your attention to detail, you will record and maintain data, and help with the analysis and interpretation of financial information.  As a departmental resource, one would provide direct assistance to various departments around G/L information, and may provide limited guidance and advice on more straightforward accounting requests.

As our ideal candidate, you will bring personal drive, initiative and advanced oral and written communication skills.  Combined with your understanding of internal customers’ requests, you would respond promptly to meet the needs of both departmental customers and your accounting team alike.  Enjoy the benefits of working within a team, but rely on your technical confidence and knowledge of accounting principles to work independently and make informed decisions.

Required Qualifications:

  • Business Administration Diploma (accounting major) or equivalent;
  • Four (4) years (or more) of experience in an accounting environment, with progression towards complex tasks.
  • Experience with accounting based software and windows based office software.
  • Management approved equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.
