RISK MANAGEMENT INSPECTOR

Engineering Department

 

The Risk Management Inspector position assists the Risk Management Official with the implementation and enforcement of the City of Barrie’s Source Protection Program. Specifically, this position performs the statutory duties as prescribed under Part IV of the Clean Water Act, 2006, which involves conducting inspections, identifying threats, issuing enforcement orders and/or prosecuting persons for non-compliance. Additionally, this position assists the Risk Management Official with the development of Risk Management Plans to address existing and/or future activities where there could be significant drinking water threats. Overall, this position plays an integral role in continually safeguarding and protecting the quality and quantity of the City’s drinking water to ensure that the residents and businesses of the City of Barrie can enjoy clean and safe drinking water.

 

 

Requirements

Applicants must have:                                                                                              

Education (degree/diploma/certifications)

  • Three (3) year College Degree in Applied Science, Engineering Technology, Environmental Studies, Environmental Geoscience or related discipline
  • Eligibility for, and willingness to obtain a Risk Management Inspector Designation through the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MOECC)
  • Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s Licence in good standing with a reliable vehicle to use on corporate business
  • Eligibility for, and willingness to obtain a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T) Designation from the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technologists and Technicians (OACETT) is preferred.

 

Experience

  • Three (3) years of closely related experience performing the above mentioned major responsibilities within an engineering and/or environmental science work environment
  • Demonstrated experience in a consulting or municipal work environment with responsibilities for engineering, reporting, and other technical studies is preferred
  • Demonstrated experience inspecting industrial facilities for the purpose of determining compliance with legislation is preferred
  • Demonstrated experience working with the Ontario Drinking Water Source Protection Program is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience utilizing municipal engineering software applications such as Amanda, Arc Map, and Microsoft Access is preferred.

 

Knowledge/Skill/Ability

  • Thorough knowledge of municipal groundwater supply systems
  • Working knowledge of the following: Clean Water Act, 2006; Source Protection Practices
  • Excellent customer service skills with the ability to resolve inquiries in an effective manner
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication (oral and written) skills
  • Computer literacy utilizing Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word), the Internet, and AutoCAD or GIS software
  • Thorough knowledge of the following legislation: Clean Water Act, 2006; Source Protection Practices is preferred.
Salary & Benefits

The 2016 salary range is $54,345.20 to $65,101.40 per year ($29.86 to $35.77/hr). The hours of work will be 35 hours/week.  For full details regarding this position, please visit our website at www.barrie.ca.
