Description
Under the direction of the Director of Human Resources the Human Resources Specialist will be responsible for the recruitment/staffing process for the City of Iqaluit. This would include developing and updating job descriptions, job advertisements, interview questions and reference checks. The purpose of this position is to maintain equitable hiring practices and fairness throughout each process while following policies, Collective Agreement and Inuit Employment Stagey. The HR Specialist will research external positions to compare current job descriptions and recommend changes to roles and responsibilities to the Director.  The incumbent will also perform classification of jobs by performing job evaluations. The HR Specialist will also assist with employee relation issues, Union meetings, discipline/grievance procedures. She/he will participate in ongoing HR programs and department initiatives. This position will provide support and direction to staff, Management and other members of the HR department in relation to HR management processes and procedures.

Requirements

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

 

  • Post secondary education in Human Resources

  • Several years experience working in Human Resources

  • Experience working in a Unionized and cross cultural environment

  • Exceptional communication skills, both oral and written
  • Excellent computer and report writing skills

  • Must be a self starter and highly motivated
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and multi-task
  • Must be a self starter, highly motivated and work well with minimal supervision
  • Ability to read/write/speak Inuktitut is preferred

Equivalencies that include a combination of education, knowledge, skills and abilities to formal education will be considered.

Salary & Benefits

The annual salary for this position is $72,319.63 plus an annual settlement allowance of $22,378.25 and an excellent benefits package.
