Description
Reporting directly to the General Manager, Corporate Performance, the Director of Legal Services is responsible for providing legal advice and opinions, interpretation of legislation, drafting and review of agreements, and support in the areas of real estate, litigation, municipal, construction and contract law. Will also be responsible for the management and oversight of the County’s use of external legal counsel.

Possess a University Law Degree (L.L.B.).

A Barrister and Solicitor licensed by the Law Society of Upper Canada.

Demonstrated knowledge of applicable legislation, municipal and regional government organization and structure, industry standards, issues and communities served.

Knowledge and demonstrated ability in corporate core competencies including customer service, communication, team work, initiative/self-management, accountability and flexibility.

Strong planning and organizational skills.

Strong time management and multi-tasking skills.

Demonstrated political acumen and ability to negotiate, mediate, facilitate and present information to a varied audience.

Computer literacy utilizing word-processing and spreadsheet application skills.

Must possess a valid Ontario Class "G" Driver's License, and access to a reliable vehicle for use on corporate business.

Minimum seven (7) years related and progressive senior legal management experience that includes real estate, expropriation and contract law.

Experience in various municipal areas including Social Housing Legislation (Housing Act), Ontario Works, Day Nursery/Early Learning Education Act, Human Rights Law, Residential Tenancies Act, Municipal Act, Planning Law, Statutory Powers Procedures Act, Freedom of Information and MFFIPA, Retirement Homes Act, Health & Safety Legislation, and Employment Standards Act, etc., would be an asset.

Experience in the supervision of staff and the administration of employment policies.

Broad knowledge of the public sector and experience working closely with elected officials would be an asset.

Compensation Information

$129 122 - $151 726 per annum

35 hours per week
