About the Job:

Corix Utilities, a division of Corix, develops customized water, wastewater and energy systems and provides field metering services for clients across North America.  Our vision is To Build a World of Sustainable Communities by effectively balancing the environmental, social and economic impacts and benefits of our utility solutions.

Corix Utilities invites applications from candidates with proven skills, qualifications and abilities for the regular full-time position of Wastewater Operator Level II in Calgary. The successful candidate will hold a Level II or higher Wastewater certification. We are looking for an individual who can show initiative and self-reliance and will have the ability to teach from the materials supplied to them.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Daily inspections, monitoring and maintenance of all equipment relating to the wastewater utility system.
  • Perform routine maintenance on all equipment, pumps, blowers, motors, etc.
  • Creating and maintaining detailed logs on inspections, monitoring and maintenance.
  • Daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly sampling of all aspects of the wastewater utility system to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Developing and maintaining applicable emergency preparedness binders.
  • Developing and maintaining applicable field operating manuals.
  • Responsible for health & safety, including other employees, contractors and visitors to our sites.
  • Major contributor to the continued development of both the water and wastewater utility systems as they are upgraded.
  • Perform all other duties as required to ensure the safe and reliable operation of utility systems or all Corix operations.

Working Conditions:

Work in plant and field environments; some exposure to wastewater, chemicals, hazardous materials, and noise; heavy lifting/moving, standing, climbing. May work at heights, in confined spaces, and in inclement weather conditions. Will participate in on call and scheduled overtime rotation.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education, training and/or certifications of the previously mentioned levels of certifications.
  • Field experience in electrical or mechanical trades an asset.
  • Knowledge of performing regular inspections of the sewer collection system, locating and inspecting manholes and the sewage lift station, and facilitating repairs as required an asset.
  • fter-hour and weekend on-call support may be required.
  • Weekend scheduling may be required.
  • Good mechanical aptitude.
  • Valid driver’s license; must be able to provide driver's abstract.
  • Training in various areas, including confined space operations will be provided.
  • Ability to maintain logs as required using MS Word and MS Excel and to communicate via email using MS Outlook.

Special Skills/Equipment:

  • Good mechanical aptitude.
  • Valid Drivers License; must be able to provide driver's abstract.
  • Chlorine handling certification would be preferred.
  • Training in confined space operations will be provided.
  • Knowledge of provisions of WHMIS procedures.
  • Ability to maintain logs as required using MS Word and MS Excel and to communicate via email using MS Outlook.

Physical Requirements:

  • Physically fit, with handling objects up to 30kg required routinely.
  • Must be able to walk/stand for long periods of time.
