About the Job:

Corix Water Services, a division of Corix, offers a complete range of services for water distribution systems, from testing and maintenance of large water meters to repair and maintenance of fire hydrants to preventative maintenance, inspection, fire flow testing and Factor analysis. Our experienced and knowledgeable employees provide our customers with effective custom-tailored solutions, supported by prompt, expert service.

Corix has an immediate opening in our Toronto office for a contract full-time Operator in Training. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing water operator and water operator related duties as directed by Water Works Supervisor in both supervised and unsupervised environments, including associated equipment inspection and maintenance, operation of tools and equipment as required. Working in conjunction with municipal inspection staff, municipal operators, consulting engineers and other trades. This is a unionized position.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Daily inspections, monitoring and maintenance of all equipment relating to water and wastewater utility systems in our service area.
  • Perform routine maintenance on all equipment, pumps, blowers, motors, etc.
  • Creating and maintaining detailed logs on inspections, monitoring and maintenance.
  • Daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly sampling of all aspects of the water and wastewater utility systems to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Developing and maintaining applicable emergency preparedness binders.
  • Developing and maintaining applicable field operating manuals.
  • Responsible for health & safety, including other employees, contractors and visitors to our sites.
  • Major contributor to the continued development of both the water and wastewater utility systems as they are upgraded.
  • Perform all other duties as required to ensure the safe and reliable operation of utility systems or all Corix operations.
  • Locate utility services prior to construction activities.
  • Repairs to small irrigation and water lines.
  • Replace water meters when required.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education, training and/or certifications in any or all of the following will be considered:
  • Water Treatment
  • Water Distribution
  • Wastewater Collection
  • Wastewater Treatment
  • Field experience in plumbing, electrical or mechanical trades an asset.
  • Experience in construction, fusion, geothermal, geo-exchange, and fire hydrant maintenance/servicing an asset.
  • Knowledge of performing regular inspections of the sewer collection system, locating and inspecting manholes and the sewage lift station, and facilitating repairs as required an asset.
  • Knowledge of performing regular inspections of the water distribution system, locating, inspecting and repairing valves and PRV stations an asset.
  • Ability to read water meters, keep maintenance records and update plans.
  • Experience in collecting and testing drinking water samples an asset.
  • After-hour and weekend on-call support is required.
  • Some travel may be required.
  • Must be available to work shift work: weekend scheduling may be required.
  • Good mechanical aptitude.
  • Valid BC Drivers license; must be able to provide a current driver's abstract.
  • Training in propane and confined space operations will be provided.
  • Ability to maintain logs as required using MS Word and MS Excel and to communicate via email using MS Outlook.
