Engineering Department
The Policy and Standards Technologist position is responsible for the development of infrastructure asset policies, standards, guidelines and new product approvals focused on a function-based value engineering approach; sustainability initiatives; and full life cycle design and construction methodology as part of the Corporate Asset Management Program. In addition, this position administers the municipal consent process; responds to corporate and public infrastructure asset inquiries; generates solutions to address infrastructure asset complaints; and acts as a technical liaison for the City’s railway asset.

Key Qualifications:
Education (degree/diploma/certifications)
- Three (3) year College Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or related discipline
- Eligibility for, and willingness to obtain a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) Designation from the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technologists and Technicians (OACETT). Full Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) Designation is preferred.
- Valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s licence in good standing with a reliable vehicle to use on corporate business
Experience
- Three (3) years of closely related experience performing the above mentioned major responsibilities
Knowledge/Skill/Ability
- Superior organizing, interpersonal, public relations, written and oral communication skills
- Knowledge of engineering design, infrastructure standards and principles and best practices in the municipal infrastructure industry
- Knowledge of the following:
- Ontario Provincial Standard Specifications (OPSS)
- American Water Works Association (AWWA) Standard
- American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM)
- Canadian Standards Association (CSA) standards and testing procedures related to municipal infrastructure materials
- Computer proficiency utilizing Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word), MS Project, and AutoCAD, with an emphasis on construction specifications and standards
- Demonstrated ability to interact effectively and courteously with all levels of staff, consultants, suppliers, and contacts to maintain a high standard of public relations at all times
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with suppliers and consultants and familiarity with methods of payment procedures and quality assurance. The process for developing requests for proposals, including acceptance, review and selection of consulting engineers.
The 2014 (revised) pay range of $56,911 to $68,195 per year ($31.27/hr to $37.47/hr). The hours of work will be 35 hours/week. For full details regarding this position, please visit our website at www.barrie.ca.
