Duties:
- Maintain strong relationships and open lines of communication with stakeholders inside and outside the organization;
- Promote a strong public relations program within the Corporation, emphasizing the importance of customer service, conflict resolution, and effective communications;
- Develop communication and marketing strategies/plans that enhance the corporate image;
- Prepare presentations, speeches and talking notes as required by the CAO and the Mayor;
- Act as liaison between the CAO, Mayor and Media to arrange interviews, tapings, press conferences;
- Prepare and disseminate communications/media releases for the City of Timmins;
- Under general guidance, make public appearances and coordinate events to increase awareness of and promote goodwill for the City and its citizens;
- Enhance public knowledge and understanding of the municipality’s success stories, issues and challenges;
- Monitor and follow up with various media sources to ensure factual and accurate information;
- Coordinate, conduct and record quarterly Steering Committee meetings for the Strategic Plan;
- Respond to media, general public, and community partners on Timmins 2020 issues;
- Coordinate the publication of various promotional materials, such as brochures and newsletters, as well as share the information using the municipality’s website and social media tools;
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Minimum of two-year community college diploma, preferably with a background in Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, or a combination of education and experience acceptable to the Employer;
- Advanced computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite) required;
- Superior writing skills in both official languages (French and English);
- Bilingualism (French and English) is mandatory, French translation skills an asset;
- Web content/social media experience;
- Experience in dealing with the media would be an asset;
- Ability to prepare and present written and verbal reports;
- Excellent interpersonal and public relation communication skills,
- Ability to remain discreet when dealing with sensitive information required;
- Current and clear Criminal Background Check;
