FIRE CHIEF
FULL-TIME PERMENANT

With the recent retirement announcement of our Fire Chief, the Town of Coaldale is seeking a dynamic fire services professional to serve as our next Fire Chief. Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), the Fire Chief is responsible for the organization, coordination, and administration of a well-trained volunteer fire department. As part of the Senior Management Team, the Fire Chief will participate in the development and implementation of corporate goals and objectives both within the department and across the Town of Coaldale.

The Coaldale & District Emergency Services provides fire, rescue and first medical response services both the Town of Coaldale, a municipality with a population of 7500, and a portion of Lethbridge County. The Fire Chief position requires the successful candidate to maintain residence within the corporate limits of the Town of Coaldale. Key Duties and Responsibilities:

• • Develops, recommends and implements appropriate fire, rescue and medical first response within the parameters approved by the fire commission and the Town of Coaldale
• Act as a resource person to boards, committees, and commissions as assigned.  Participate in the formation and/or operation of various external municipal committees as they relate to departmental functions and issues
• Ensures an effective program of fire prevention including inspections, investigations and public education is in place within the Town of Coaldale
• Develop, recommend and implement appropriate fire/rescue and medical first response  programs within the parameters approved by the Fire Commission
• Ensures the Protective Services components of the community including fire, police, EMS and community organizations understand the functions and responsibilities of each in the event of the need for a joint response.  Ensures Fire Services has a comprehensive systematic approach to volunteer recruitment and training
• Establishes and implements Standard Operating Guidelines (SOG) based on best practices and OH&S regulations
• Coordinate, attend and facilitate the Fire Commission and Disaster Services Committee meetings and subsequent strategies and programs
• Prepares the annual and long-range operational and capital strategic plans and budgets for the Department. Develops cost projections for necessary capital projects
• Provides Incident Command for the Department and there is an after-hours on call component for training and emergency calls
 

Requirements

• Relevant post-secondary education combined with 5 – 10 years’ experience in a similar setting; combination of education and experience will be considered
• NFPA 1001Level I & II, NFPA 1041 Level I, 1002 pump operations, 1021, 472 Dangerous Goods awareness and operations, ICS 300
• Registered EMR, or advanced first aid and CPR with the ability to raise up to an EMR level
• NFPA 1031 Fire Inspector, NFPA 1033 Fire Investigator Alberta operators License 3, 4 with Q Endorsement
• Supervisory experience working with volunteers
• Agility and strength to perform prolonged and arduous work under adverse conditions
