How would you like to lead the advancement of Council's Strategic Plan, The Way Ahead, and work across the corporation to implement corporate planning?

Reporting to the Director of Corporate Strategic Services, you will manage a small team that is part of the Corporate Strategic Planning Branch. You have an innate ability to set direction and align resources, will manage a high performing team, achieve results, implement and manage change, and have excellent relationship building skills which have been cultivated over your career.  

As part of the Corporate Strategic Planning Branch, you will play an integral role in establishing and supporting a corporate strategic planning framework that integrates planning, performance measurement, risk management, and resource allocation processes to improve Council’s and Administration’s decision-making.  You will also challenge your facilitation, knowledge management, and knowledge transfer skills to engage various stakeholders to develop consensus and support around the framework and its implementation.  You will help support a One City approach to Building a Great City.

 

As Manager, Corporate Planning, you will:

  • Develop and support a corporate-wide integrated planning and performance process to further embed corporate planning, performance measurement, and enterprise risk management in the workplace culture
  • Facilitate development of strategic and business plans across the organization by providing advice and expertise to the roll-out of corporate business planning as well as offering consulting and advice to internal stakeholders on how to implement, apply, and improve the strategic/business planning process

  • Enable the corporation to strategically plan its business so that alignment is achieved with Council's vision and strategic direction, The Way Ahead

  • Participate in cross-departmental work on a variety of initiatives, provide advice, and develop approaches to address unique departmental or cross-departmental planning challenges

  • Develop and facilitate the renewal of Council's Strategic Plan, The Way Ahead, in partnership with Transforming Edmonton Committee (TEC) and under the sponsorship of the Chief Financial Officer

  • Develop and implement knowledge management and knowledge transfer approaches and activities for the branch by creating guidelines and educational tools for corporate strategy

  • Develop and deliver presentations, verbal briefings, written reports, and information sessions to various audiences

  • Provide excellent management, mentoring, and support to your team and be a valued member of Corporate Strategic Services

  • Support the Director, Corporate Strategic Services as required to advance the work of the Branch Manager and Chief Financial Officer

Requirements

Ideal candidates will be able to demonstrate experience in corporate business planning, strategic planning, performance management and/or knowledge management in a complex environment and will have successfully championed initiatives that will inspire others within a growing organization where vision, innovation and community align. Specific requirements for the position are:                

  • University degree (graduate level preferred) in Business or Public Administration with emphasis in corporate business/ strategic planning or a related discipline
  • Minimum 7 years direct, progressively responsible experience in strategic planning, business planning, and/or performance measurement including at least 2 years of direct experience managing people
  • Certified Management Consultant is considered an asset
  • Experience in local government is an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement effective consultation that engages diverse stakeholders using your facilitation, adult education principles, change management, and/or dispute resolution expertise
  • Extensive experience in successful strategic planning and implementation
  • Strong project management and well-developed research, comprehensive report writing, analysis and ability to present results to all levels in the organization
  • Ability to take initiative and be flexible and responsive to changing priorities and circumstances
  • Strong political acumen to grasp and effectively respond to political conditions
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain relationships in a complex and dynamic environment
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills
Salary & Benefits

Salary: $99,065 - $141,522 (Annually)
