The City of St. Albert requires a Planning Technician to act as a GIS and AutoCAD technical specialist in support of land use planning and development processing. You will work as a team with other Planning Technicians to create and maintain a base parcel geodatabase for the City and develop complex maps and displays in support of a variety of Planning and Development needs. You will review Current Planning projects for conformance with City standards and bylaws, and provide mapping and information support for Affordable Housing and Long-range Planning. You will track municipal reserve and land use statistics for developing neighbourhoods. You will also be directly responsible for all addressing and street naming functions for the City, and external requirements from multiple agencies for mapping and data, naming and addressing information.
This position demands creativity, a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail. Strong time management, organization and communication skills are essential for success in this role.
HOURS OF WORK
This is a part time position which will work 20 hours per week.
TERM
May 2015 – December 31, 2015, with a possibility of extension.
QUALIFICATIONS
Completion of post secondary education in urban or municipal planning, urban planning geographic information systems, engineering drafting, cartography or a similar program.
Coursework in GIS applications and Cartography is required.
3 years of related work experience.
Candidates must be highly proficient users of ArcGIS, AutoCAD and Microsoft Office software.
Preference will be given to candidates who are also proficient users of InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Acrobat, Alberta Online, POSSE, and SPIN 2.
The ability to design/edit web pages is also desirable.
The successful applicant will be required to obtain a satisfactory police information check.
COMPENSATION
$37.75 per hour
