SUPERVISOR OF CONSTRUCTION INSPECTION

Engineering Department

 

The Supervisor of Construction Inspection is responsible for the coordination and supervision of inspections for infrastructure construction activities that occur within the City of Barrie.  This position provides guidance, expertise, and oversight to staff regarding inspections to ensure infrastructure construction activities are compliant with Contract Drawings, specifications and applicable ordinances.  This position is responsible for ensuring that construction inspections are effectively managed and communicated to mitigate the impact of construction activities on the community.  Overall, this position ensures that infrastructure construction activities are properly inspected to provide and maintain a level of quality that meets City standards and to extend the lifespan of the City’s infrastructure.

Requirements

Key Qualifications (under review):

Education (degree/diploma/certifications)

  • Three (3) year College Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or related discipline
  • Eligibility for, and willingness to obtain, a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) Designation from the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT)
  • Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s Licence in good standing
  • Road Construction Senior Inspector (RCSI)  Designation from the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT) and the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO) is preferred
  • Environmental Sediment and Erosion Control Inspection Certification through an agency sanctioned by the Ontario Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change (MOECC) is preferred.

 

Experience

  • Six (6) years of closely related experience in the field inspection of civil infrastructure projects including road works, bridge construction, watermain construction, storm and sanitary construction .   Twelve (12) years of closely related experience is preferred including one (1) year of experience as an Assistant Contract Administrator
  • Three (3) years of supervisory experience (part or all of which may be included in the six (6) years of experience referenced above).  Six (6) years of supervisory experience in a unionized work environment (part or all of which may be included in the ten (12) years of experience referenced above is preferred.
