Environmental Services Department for an experienced and motivated individual

WASTE MANAGEMENT ASSISTANT

Responsible for:

Under the direction of the Manager of Solid Waste Management, responds to inquiries and resolves residents’ complaints concerning municipal waste collections. Reviews development site plans and is responsible to ensure compliance with the City’s Waste Collection Design Standards Policy.  Assists with the dissemination of promotional, education and advertising materials, including the handling of green bins and blue boxes and participates in public education programs related to waste management initiatives. Assists in monitoring the effectiveness of the municipal waste management program.

Requirements
  • Community College Certificate in Civil Engineering, Environmental Science or related studies with completed courses / credits in waste management, public relations or suitable work related experience.
  • Ability to read and understand site plans.
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in municipal operations. Experience in the municipal solid waste management field preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to deal courteously and effectively with the public, staff and collection contractors.
  • Valid Class ‘G’ driver’s license, in good standing, as issued by the Province of Ontario.
  • Proficient computer skills and good working knowledge of work preprocessing and spreadsheets.
  • Physically able to lift and load / unload items, including oversized and heavy items (up to 20.4 kgs.).
  • Flexible to work after hours, corporate recognized holidays and weekends as required.
