LEGAL COUNSEL

Responsible for: Reporting to the Director of Legal Services you will provide a full range of municipal legal services. You will be responsible for providing legal advice and opinions; prepare reports and present to Council and Senior Management; and work closely with departments. You will represent the City at court proceedings and proceedings before administrative tribunals. This includes providing advice on all by-laws and agreements, documents, statutes and regulations related to the City.
You are a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada and have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a law office or municipality. Experience in municipal law, litigation, and prosecutions preferred. You possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills as well and negotiation skills, with a demonstrated ability to provide sound legal advice, information and direction to Members of Council, Senior Management and City staff. You possess superior drafting and project management skills.
